Begin Again

Tear stained face,

and hollow eyes.

Sick of all the rules,

and sick of all the lies.

Her heart heavy in her chest,

her hair flowing in the wind.

She had not lied,

she had not sinned.

Pushing through the crowd,

she lost herself in all the faces.

Sick of all the segregation,

sick of all the races.

She longed to find herself,

she just didn’t know how.

She stepped out of the memories,

and concentrated on the now.

Her life was in shambles,

and yet life had just begun.

Lifting her head,

she smiled at the sun.
